The role of an artist is turning pain into beauty, then to create something so beautiful it hurts. Askjell, the Norwegian contemporary classical and electronic artist, and Bergen’s biggest pop producer, today releases his debut album everything will be ok, which does just that. As complex as his music is surreal and emotive, Askjell spent years locked in a studio teaching himself piano and production, before breaking out as one of Norway’s most critically regarded pop and rap producers (Sigrid, Aurora, Arif, Kjartan Lauritzen). His solo project is a lucid dream of fantasy soundscapes, with a “touch of video games”, and explores themes drenched in philosophy, politics, romance, love, and the small power of crying.
